Student Enrollment for:

Two-Year or Four-Year Colleges

Of the 4,495 Postsecondary Title IV* institutions in the U.S. as of 2009 1721 are 2-year colleges and 2774 are 4-year colleges.

Public and For-profit Colleges

As of 2013 88% of all students attend public colleges and universities, while 12% of all students attend for-profit colleges and universities.

Online Courses/Distance Learning

As of 2007, 20.4% of postsecondary students were taking some education courses online; 3.7% of postsecondary students were taking their entire program online.

*Institutions with written agreement with the Department of Education permitting them to participate in Title IV federal student financial funding programs.
