Terms of Employment

Part-time Faculty / Full-time Faculty

In 1970, 77.8% of the faculty at institutions of higher learning was full-time.

In 2011, 50% of the faculty at degree-granting institutions was full-time.

In 1995, data collection shifted from institutions of higher learning to degree-granting institutions. (The shift led to including more two-year colleges than before, and excluding higher education institutions that did not grant degrees.)
